Familiar Nov. 2008

familiar waves from a stagnant ocean
crashing over all emotion
drumming down to a dull roar
all that was felt before
building presure, yet going nowhere
rising and falling but never changing

alone and cold
surrounded by warm currents
feeling nothing and old
watching from the turret
safe and secure
locked and bolted
echos of past laughter
bouncing down the hollow halls
fleeting and unnoticed

a thick blanket
thrown over the limbs of life
to hide and shield them
from all the unending strife
a muted tone and softer glance
belies of peace and cheer
faint music to which you can't dance
rings through hollow ears

unhearing, unseeing
a safer kind of hell
twisted and broken
laying where you fell
lost and forsaken
though surrounded by words
whose meanings are lost and taken
and not really heard

familiar waves
a flowing ease
easier to drift
to sit and freeze
than to fight and swim
for yet another whim
easier to sink
than to think
